News: Car news 3: 2023 Kia Picanto showcases striking design and technological advancements

JUL 07, 2023

City car features EV9-inspired ‘tiger nose’ grille and over-the-air updates; expected to exceed $20,000

The recently unveiled 2023 Kia Picanto presents a bold transformation both inside and out, aiming to maintain its appeal and strong sales figures. Specifically tailored for young professionals and short urban commutes, the updated Picanto offers enhanced drivability, a wide range of standard features, over-the-air update capabilities, and advanced technologies that position it as one of the safest cars in its class.

Drawing inspiration from Kia’s Opposites United design philosophy, showcased in models like the EV9 and EV6, the Picanto’s exterior receives a striking redesign. Additionally, four new paint colors have been introduced for the 2023 model year.

While the current Picanto starts at $18,285, the upgrades are expected to push the price of the facelifted model beyond $20,000, similar to its closely related Hyundai i10 sibling, which recently underwent similar enhancements.

The vehicle is offered in two trim levels, both available with either a 1.0-liter three-cylinder or a 1.2-liter four-cylinder petrol engine. Both engines have been updated to improve exhaust-gas recirculation and reduce emissions. Transmission options include a five-speed automatic gearbox or a five-speed automated manual, which combines a conventional manual transmission with automatic actuation of the clutch and gears.

Inside the Picanto, the infotainment system has undergone a significant revamp, featuring either an optional 8.0-inch ‘floating’ touchscreen or a standard 4.2-inch LCD display. The larger system offers Bluetooth compatibility for simultaneous pairing of two devices, along with Kia Connect services that provide live traffic updates, weather forecasts, and information on available parking spots.

Furthermore, the system enables users to preload their sat-nav with route directions via a dedicated app and receive over-the-air updates for the infotainment and sat-nav systems.

The new interior design, inspired by nature, offers two color packs: Adventurous Green and Rich Brown. Kia’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in both trim levels, which include faux-leather upholstery as part of the brand’s initiative to gradually eliminate leather across its entire lineup, starting with the EV9.
